TrueCart is built to keep your data on your phone. To create an account we collect only your first name and email address. Your diet, allergies, health information and body metrics stay on your device and are never sent to us. When you scan a product the photo never leaves your device, and only the product barcode is sent to a public food database. We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking.
This Privacy Policy describes Our policies and procedures on the collection, use and disclosure of Your information when You use the Service and tells You about Your privacy rights and how the law protects You.
We use Your Personal Data to provide and improve the Service. By using the Service, You agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Collecting and Using Your Personal Data
Types of Data Collected
Personal Data. While using Our Service, We may ask You to provide Us with certain personally identifiable information that can be used to contact or identify You. The only Personal Data We collect to create and manage your account is:
- Email address
- First name
This account information is handled by our authentication provider (Supabase) on our behalf. We do not require a last name, phone number, address, or any payment information to use the Service.
No analytics, advertising or tracking. The TrueCart app and website do not use analytics tools, advertising networks, tracking technologies, cookies for tracking, or device advertising identifiers, and we do not build advertising profiles about you. We do not automatically collect usage statistics, browsing history, or precise location. Our authentication provider may process limited technical data (such as an IP address) only as needed to operate and secure the sign-in process; we do not use it to track you.
Information That Stays on Your Device
Most of what makes TrueCart work is processed and stored only on your phone and is never transmitted to us. This includes your diet preferences, food dislikes and likes, allergies, health conditions, household size, kitchen appliances, goals, and body metrics (such as height, weight, age, sex and activity level), along with your meal plans, Smart Cart, and saved items. This information is stored locally on your device and is not uploaded to our servers.
On-Device Scanning and Camera
The Service includes a product Scanner. When you scan a product, the camera image is processed entirely on your device to recognize the product, and your photos are never uploaded to us or to any third party. To retrieve publicly available nutrition and ingredient information, only a product identifier (such as a barcode) or recognized product text is sent to the Open Food Facts public food database. Your image, your identity and your profile are never transmitted. The App requests access to your camera (and, if you choose to pick an existing image, your photo library) solely for this on-device scanning feature.
On-Device Artificial Intelligence
The Service includes an on-device assistant ("Sage") that helps with recipes and meal ideas. It runs locally on your device using on-device models. Your conversations with the assistant and the information it uses are processed on your device and are not sent to us or to any external AI service.
Third-Party Services We Rely On
We use a small number of Service Providers, and only the data described below leaves your device:
- Supabase: provides account authentication. Receives your first name, email and password and manages your sign-in session.
- Open Food Facts: a public food database. Receives a product barcode or recognized product text to return public nutrition and ingredient information. No personal or account data is sent.
- Instacart: if you choose to send your Smart Cart to a store, the list of grocery items is shared with Instacart to build a cart. No account, health, or profile data is sent.
- Kroger: when available, a product barcode may be sent to retrieve live shelf prices. No personal or account data is sent.
Use of Your Personal Data
The Company may use Personal Data for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain our Service, including to create and operate your account.
- To manage Your Account: to manage your registration as a user of the Service and give you access to functionality available to registered users.
- To contact You: to send you account- and security-related communications, such as a sign-up confirmation email, where necessary to operate the Service.
- To manage Your requests: to attend and manage your requests to us, including support and data requests.
- For legal and security purposes: to protect the Service and our users and to comply with applicable law.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent your Personal Data.
Sharing of Your Personal Data
We may share Your Personal Data in the following limited situations:
- With Service Providers: with the providers listed above to operate the Service on our behalf.
- For business transfers: we may share or transfer Your Personal Data in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of Company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of our business to another company. We will provide notice before Your Personal Data becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.
- For legal requirements: we may disclose Your Personal Data if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
- With Your consent: we may disclose Your Personal Data for any other purpose with Your consent.
Payments
TrueCart offers optional paid subscriptions. Subscriptions are purchased and billed through the Apple App Store, and Apple processes all payments. We do not collect or store your payment card or billing details. Your management of a subscription (including cancellation) is handled through your Apple App Store account.
Retention of Your Personal Data
The Company will retain Your account information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy, and to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies. Account information is retained for the duration of your account relationship and for a limited period afterward to handle any post-termination issues. Information stored on your device remains on your device until you delete it or remove the App.
Transfer of Your Personal Data
Your account information is processed by our authentication provider, which may store and process it on computers located outside of your state, province, country or other governmental jurisdiction where data protection laws may differ. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that Your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Delete Your Personal Data
You have the right to delete or request that We assist in deleting the Personal Data that We have collected about You. You may delete most information directly within the App. To delete your account, use the account-deletion option in the App, which removes your locally stored data from your device and deletes the associated account information held by our authentication provider. You may also email us at support@truecart.info to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your Personal Data. We may need to retain certain information where we have a legal obligation or lawful basis to do so.
Disclosure of Your Personal Data
Business Transactions. If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition or asset sale, Your Personal Data may be transferred. We will provide notice before Your Personal Data is transferred and becomes subject to a different Privacy Policy.

Other legal requirements. The Company may disclose Your Personal Data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a legal obligation, protect and defend the rights or property of the Company, prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service, protect the personal safety of users of the Service or the public, or protect against legal liability.
Security of Your Personal Data
The security of Your Personal Data is important to Us. Account credentials are transmitted over encrypted connections and authentication tokens are stored securely on your device. However, remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While We strive to use commercially reasonable means to protect Your Personal Data, We cannot guarantee its absolute security.
Children's Privacy
The Service is intended for users who are at least 18 years old, and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone under 18. If You are a parent or guardian and You are aware that Your child has provided Us with Personal Data, please contact Us. If We become aware that We have collected Personal Data from anyone under 18 without verification of parental consent, We take steps to remove that information.

Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by Us. If You click on a third party link, You will be directed to that third party's site. We strongly advise You to review the Privacy Policy of every site You visit. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies or practices of any third party sites or services.
